Sotheby's Sells Masterpiece by 6 Year Old for Twenty Million Dollars
This morning in front of the world’s wealthiest and most sophisticated art collectors, dealers and gallerists, Sotheby’s sold what it billed as a ‘masterpiece' by six year old local New York artist, Abby Marion, for twenty million dollars.
“Remarkable showing for such a young artist,” said Sotheby’s auctioneer Oliver Barker. “We knew the art market was hot but the fact that a 6 year old’s first work of art sold for twenty million shows that the sky is the limit for a great masterpiece,” added Mr. Barker.
The buyer of the painting was Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salmon of the royal Saudi family, who most recently purchased da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi for a record $450 million dollars. When reached by telephone by The Satirical Post, Mr. Salmon raved about the work. “It’s so simple yet complex. Its rich and vibrant but rings of melancholy and lost youth. Imagine how deep her work will be when she turns 7. I’m looking forward to it.”
When asked if he had met Abby at the auction, Mr. Salmon said he wanted to but unfortunately he was only available during her nap time. “We tried to get her to reschedule her nap time so we could meet, but you know how artists are. Very temperamental."
Art critic Vicki Feldman said she was surprised the painting sold for such a low number. “The depth that this little girl sees the world with is so deep, the humanity in the work, the colors…it just blows me away. Hi. Bye. Hey there. All the greetings we take for granted seem so special the way she communicated them,” explained Ms. Feldman.
All the patrons on the auction floor who bid on the paining and lost still felt great about their lives when compared to average Americans. “What a great life I have,” said collector Kurt Glass. “So many people around the country can barely pay their bills and I have so much money I bid nineteen million dollars for the first painting a six year old painted,” chuckled Mr. Glass.
